Well, as individuals grow to a certain age, roughly around their early teenage years - though some males and females develop sooner or later than others - they reach a stage of physical development that induces strong hormonal reactions within the body. Basically, this progression into maturity is the body developing the necessities to reproduce and thus create offspring. Females also gain the qualities to nurture their offspring as well.
