[It's been two weeks since the incident with Arietta, and there was still no sign of Anise in the village. They never even had a chance to speak before she left for a mission, likely in an attempt to put some distance between herself and Ion after their argument. It's strange to think that the last time they went this long without speaking to each other by choice was around this same time last year, though for a very different reason. He's been so caught up in dealing with all of this that he actually let the anniversary of the day he first confessed his feelings for her pass by without a single thought!]

[It was strange to think so much time had already passed. He wasn't entirely sure how to feel about it really.]

[But sometime in the late afternoon, he opens his journal. There's no need to bother with a filter while Anise is still out of the village, and it isn't as though Arietta is the one he's trying to reason with here. Her anger is easier to understand and deal with. There's an uncharacteristic hint of exasperation in his voice when he speaks, having spent the last week and a half mulling over this without any obvious solution coming to mind.]

How do you stop two people who hate each other from continuing to hate each other? [Not a very eloquent way of asking, but it's the simplest way he can think of to explain the situation.]

Though this isn't the sort of problem I'm expecting an easy answer to, I was hoping someone might be able to offer some suggestions. Or perhaps if anyone's had any experience in dealing with a situation like this, it might be of some help.

[And regardless as to whether he's heard any solutions to this problem or not, he'll be spending the remainder of the evening in various places around town. He spends about an hour at the library, not quite able to concentrate on his reading. Giving that up, he goes for an aimless walk, lingering on the various bridges around town for a few minutes before moving on again. He probably looks more spaced out than he usually is, and the cold chill in the air probably isn't helping matters. By the time he arrives back home, it's been dark for awhile and he's shivering quite a bit. He probably should have worn his winter coat today.]

I'm hoping that won't be the case for the particular situation, but even still... I think expecting them to ever be friends might not be plausible at this point.

But even if they can never be friends, it should be possible for them to stop holding so much animosity for one another, shouldn't it?

[Or, you know, at least stop threatening to kill each other in public. That'd be a nice first step.]

One could hope. Sometimes it just takes talking it out.

And what if they can't even do that without fighting?

Sometimes people need to fight, but if you're there with them to make sure it doesn't get out of hand, that might help.

Yes. Though I can't help but wonder if things wouldn't be simpler if they didn't. [Or at least, if Arietta didn't. Of course, then he wouldn't be feeling so guilty about this and probably wouldn't have gotten involved in the first place...]

I've never realized how difficult it is to be friends with two people who can't stand to be around one another. I thought it'd be possible to keep them apart, but I don't think they like even living in the same village together.

Well... at home there was this guy from my world whom I despised. Not only was he the prince of the nation that was trying to take over my world, but he also burned down my village. I thought he was going to be someone whom I'd hate forever, but after having to work with him to escape a prison, he and I became friends.

It's possible, but still really difficult.

[That's... a lot of pretty good reasons to hate someone. But she was able to forgive him and they became friends. Though it does beg the question:]

Did your friend ever apologize or try to make up for things he did before then?

He did. By the time we came across each other again, he was already trying to change. And, he already gained the trust of my boyfriend, which helped.

It isn't exactly like what you're going through, but it is possible for two people to come to terms with each other.

I see... I'm glad things were able to work out for the both of you. [With a small smile.] The situation may be different, but it's still encouraging to hear.

I really do hope things work out though. Have they been at it long?

For as long as they've known each other. It didn't used to be this bad... though I suppose that's because they didn't used to have to be around each other as often. Luceti is much smaller than Daath.

Yeah, this place is kinda small.

One would hope it would at least mean they'll respect you and be kind to each other, but it can be really hard.

I know it's hard for them. To be honest, that's part of why I've been turning a blind eye to things up until now.

Maybe that wasn't the best idea. [She doesn't mean to sound rude, but she believes that one should tell it as it is.]

I know. That's why I want to try and make up for it now... though I only hope it's not too late for something to be done.
