[For anyone who knows Ion well enough to be considered a friend, or perhaps just well enough to say you've had a conversation with him at some point in the past, you just might catch a filter at some point during the day. It's a small, weak, empty filter and it'll disappear only a few minutes after it's made, so chances are you might miss it. But for those who happen to see it, there's an explanation that follows... though there's no filter here.]

[His voice sounds rather tired, and perhaps a bit sad.]

...when you can't set up a filter to someone, it means they've gone home, doesn't it.

[He'd been asleep for a few days... clearly the deed had already been done.]

[Ion just stares, speechless, for a moment or two before doing what he usually does in situations like this.]

[spoken without any anger or frustration - she's not mad at him for keeping that from her. Worried, of course, but she's learned in her time in Luceti why many of her friends think along similar lines to the way Ion is now.]

Even so, I should have known better. You were already so worried and I had promised to tell you everythi- [His voice cracks and he looks back down quickly.]

[It wasn't at all like Ion to get so upset over something like this... but this past week? It seemed like everything was upsetting him more than usual. He mumbles another small apology before reaching up and rubbing his eyes with his sleeve, hoping to stop his tears before they start.]

[Any surprise she has at how much this is upsetting him is completely covered up when she sits beside him on the bed and hugs him.]

[Ion leans into the hug, taking a few deep breaths to steady himself. He was overreacting and he knew he was overreacting. He just couldn't get his mind and his emotions to sync up very well right now. And, certainly, learning that Simon had gone home earlier as well wasn't helping matters.]

[His head was starting to hurt a little, but he could ignore it for now.]

There's no reason to work yourself up, Ion. It's all right.

I know... I know. [He's not leaning out of the hug just yet.]

I'm sorry, I don't know why I... [Another sigh, but this sounded more frustrated that sad.] I'm sorry.

Then don't say anything. I'm sorry I upset you.

It wasn't you, Nephry. I'm just still a little out of sorts, I guess.

[and her irresponsible brother is responsible. 'Again' goes without saying.]

You don't need to explain yourself to me, Ion. You have been through quite a lot.

[He nods. That might be true, but he can't help it. He hates feeling like this.]

[After a moment:]

...are you upset with him?

Well I'm not very happy with him. [but when is she ever?]

...At least, this time, he seems to be aware of how dire the consequences of his actions could have been.

[A small nod.] He apologized to me for what happened after we were returned. I know he didn't intend to cause me any harm. He only wanted me out of harm's way...

[Ion still seems distressed; she slowly rubs his back in an attempt to be comforting.]

You don't need to dwell on it if doing so is causing you pain.

[It is comforting, probably more so because he's been laying down so much, his back is getting sore. It probably wouldn't be so bad if his wings weren't in the way.]

[He doesn't say anything, just nodding and trying to focus his mind elsewhere.]
