[For anyone who knows Ion well enough to be considered a friend, or perhaps just well enough to say you've had a conversation with him at some point in the past, you just might catch a filter at some point during the day. It's a small, weak, empty filter and it'll disappear only a few minutes after it's made, so chances are you might miss it. But for those who happen to see it, there's an explanation that follows... though there's no filter here.]

[His voice sounds rather tired, and perhaps a bit sad.]

...when you can't set up a filter to someone, it means they've gone home, doesn't it.

[The way he asks, it sounds like he already knows the answer.]

[coming in with lunch. She knows nothing about his filter or his question.]

[Ion had a bit of a frown on his face until Nephry walked in. He didn't have much of an appetite for breakfast this morning, but now that he'd been awake a little longer, he was hungry. He sets his journal aside and smiles.]

Good afternoon, Nephry.

[Good, because this sandwich and juice aren't going to finish themselves.]

Good afternoon. Feeling any better?

[A small nod.] Much better than yesterday, at least. My head has hardly ached at all since I woke up this morning.

[a smile, and she sets the tray on his lap] I'm glad to hear it.

[but is he feeling well enough to know, now, that she talked to Jade?]

[Perhaps it'd be best to let him eat first. As soon as the tray is in his lap, he digs right in.]

...mmm, thank you, Nephry. It's delicious.

[seeing him want to eat is more of a relief than she lets on. Since he seems to be doing so well, she takes a seat in the chair beside his bed.]

You're welcome.

[Even though he doesn't have a headache right now, he still stays quiet while he eats. Overall, he hasn't been very talkative since coming back last week, but that doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate her company right now.]

[When he finishes, he'll set the tray on the side-table by his bed and give a small, content sigh.]

[It's so strange that he isn't too bored by this time.]

There's more, if you're still hungry.

[It's hard to do much else other than sleep when your head hurts. Of course, he's also probably been more bored than he's let on.]

No, I should be all right for now.

All right. ...Would you like me to stay, or go?

[He has to think about that for a moment. He didn't want to keep her here if she had other things she wanted to do, but... at the same time, he didn't really like being alone.]

...I'd like it if you stayed. If that's all right...

Of course it's all right.

[as if it ever wouldn't be.]

[He smiles before turning and propping his pillows up so he can lean back without having to lay down.]

Thank you... it's nice to have someone nearby, even though I'm not very good with conversation right now.

I am more thankful than I can express that there isn't much news to converse about, Ion.

[Laughing softly.]

Yes, that is something to be thankful for, isn't it... [A pause, keeping his eyes fixed on the blankets.] ...so there still hasn't been any follow up for what happened? From the Malnosso-

[Then, said somewhat quickly as he turns to look up.] Ah, that's... probably not a good topic at all, is it?

There hasn't been, that I'm aware of. ...And if you think you are able to speak about that, then I won't stop you.

I don't think I... I-I'm not sure. I didn't mean to bring it up, it just came to mind.

[And then he said it without thinking. He's been a little spacey like that lately; one of the reasons he hasn't been talking very much. He knows it's just another side effect, but that didn't make it any less frustrating.]

Perhaps talking about it, a little, would help you? [it would offer a nice reason for him to be thinking about it]

Maybe. But as unpleasant as it is to talk about, hearing about must be...

[A sigh. He looks down at the blankets again.]

It's over now and I'm all right. I don't want to worry you more than I already have.

Ion, I believe you may not be capable of worrying me more than you already have.

[a teasing smile, and then a hand on his shoulder] I will listen, if you want to talk.

[...she has a point.]

[But he doesn't say anything just yet. Unfortunately, some of the things he'd really like to talk about are things he doesn't know Nephry knows about already. Jade apologized to him, yes, but he made no mention of whether or not he'd spoken with Nephry about what happened.]

[When the silence has gone on long enough for her to think that it might be that Ion's thoughts have wandered again...]

[Ion's head jerks up so quickly, it's a wonder he didn't give himself another headache.]
