027 ~ [Action]
[The past few days have been rather strange for Ion. Between all the problems stemming off of what happened on Christmas eve and the incident with Kohan, something new has started happening. Something he can't quite explain.]
[It started out of nowhere. Just like that day when he was returned from the malnosso, he awoke with a sharp pain running down his arms and legs. But this time it felt different -- stronger. And it took more than a few minutes before he finally felt stable enough to move out of bed. For awhile, he thought perhaps it was nothing. Maybe he was just feeling a little sore from all the stress? It wouldn't be the first time stress had affected his health, after all.]
[But then it happened again at the library. And that was only a few hours after a rather nasty fall while walking around the village, scraping the palms of his hands and his knees. He's lucky it was snowing earlier that day, or it might have been even worse! But in the library, all he had been doing was sitting and reading. And then, once he tried to move again to find another book, his legs prickled with pain, pulling him back down where he'd been sitting.]
[Something was wrong. But what should he do? Would it be right to bring this up, knowing it might be nothing? Especially if it does turn out to be nothing, in which case he'd just be causing undue stress for the others. And he can't help but think back to that last conversation with Nephry...]
[Which is why he'll be popping over to go visit a certain friend, without notice -- rather unlike him, but he didn't exactly want to make the trek back home to fetch his journal. He'll just have to hope he's home...]
[After that, he'll be making his way home. But given the snow still falling and covering the ground, he won't be having a very easy time of it. At least the snow will provide a soft landing for when he trips over his own feet.]
--
((ooc: Hey guys! So this post is basically the starting point for a little plot I've got going for Ion. Feel free to catch him anywhere around the village, including: the plaza, Seventh Heaven, the library, walking towards C4, or making his way back to House 1.))

[The fact that Ion would consider this to be a lie is probably a sign he knows something is wrong. It's more than just the pain... something about it makes him uneasy. Why else would he feel inclined to seek someone out and talk to them after only a few days of experiencing symptoms?]
...actually, that's part of the reason I'm here. I'll explain more once we're inside and I can sit down.
[Which he'll do as soon as they're in, going over to the couch and taking a seat. He almost feels a little dizzy, too... maybe those stairs weren't such a great idea.]
[action]
[He frowns in concern; what's going on here? What could make Ion want to seek Luke out like this? Ion usually takes things on for himself, so to actually go to someone...
Once Ion's sitting on the couch, Luke sits on the chair adjacent to it, lips pressed together while his hands rest on his knees. He'll give him a moment; might as well not rush into things while Ion's tired and all. But after that moment, Luke tilts his head to speak.]
All right, Ion. What's wrong?
[action]
I don't recall if I told you this, but towards the end of this past summer, my health wasn't doing too well. Dist told me if I didn't start taking better care of myself... I wouldn't get better. And for awhile, I thought I was getting better. But now... [His eyes stay fixated on the ground. This is... hard for him to say, knowing he's probably worrying Luke. But at the same time, he knows he needs to tell someone. If people on the street he's never met could tell something was wrong with him, it was only a matter of time before the other's noticed as well, right? And after everything that happened these past few days, he really needed someone to talk to. Someone he could be honest with, and take a moment to be just little more selfish than he was usually comfortable with.]
I told myself I was going to wait and see if things improved before I told anyone, but... with Dist gone, there won't be anyone to turn to if it doesn't. And I...
[He looks up. Although he still hasn't said much, his expression probably says much more than words ever could: he looks scared.]
...I think there's something wrong with me.
[action]
With Dist gone, with Jade gone, it's hard to tell what's wrong with people like them. Replicas. But Ion talking like this... It reminds Luke of just last year, when he too had something wrong with him. Something that could not be fixed, and eventually took his life. And that's something he would never wish on even his worst enemy, so... if this is happening to Ion...
When Ion looks at him again, Luke tries to hide what his hands are doing by clasping them together between his knees instead. And there is, indeed, a look of worry on his face, though he tried to cover his own fear. Maybe it isn't that, and he wouldn't want to make Ion more fearful than he already is.]
... Why do you say that? What's going on?
[action]
[He keeps his hands just above his knees, gripping his legs as small waves of pain continue to shoot through them. They've become little more than a bother now that he's become used to it, but it seems like the more he talks about and calls attention to it, the worse it feels.]
I tried to ignore it, but then earlier, in the library, it happened again. I couldn't even bring myself to stand until it died down... just like when I asked you to help me up on the stairs. I didn't want to stand up on my own in case it happened again.
[action]
This can't be happening to Ion. It can't be. Not him.
When he speaks, his voice is quiet.]
So that's why you couldn't make it up the stairs... [He looks up, though he doesn't stop holding his wrist.] Does anything else happen? Like... a glow, or... [Even now, now that it's long over, it's hard to talk about.]
[action]
[He would have recognized that feeling, after all. But just the fact that Luke is asking... although he had his reasons for asking Luke, he can't help but feel a spike of guilt anyway, knowing where Luke's mind is probably going.]
There's still a possibility that it's nothing. If it's related to what I dealt with over the summer, then the only thing that makes it worse is... stress.
[And he's certainly had more than his fair share of that these past few days. His gaze falls once more.]
[action]
But the last part makes Luke open his eyes and look at Ion again. Stress, huh...]
Wait... if it's so bad now, then does that mean something really stressful's going on?
[action]
[He starts to nod -- then shake his head -- and then he goes still again. He was so conflicted, but... this was Luke. And he didn't want to keep anything from Luke! But something like this... what would he think?]
...something like that. There's... been something on my mind these past few weeks. And I suppose you could say everything got... worse recently. It actually coincides with when all of this started happening...
[action]
But... they're here now, and they're alone, and they can talk.]
Do you want to talk about it?
[action]
[Unfortunately for Luke, in order to talk about this right, he needs to start from the beginning. And the beginning might not be the most pleasant memory. In truth, Ion doesn't remember who it was that walked into Seventh Heaven, but--]
Did you... ever hear about what happened to me on Christmas Eve?
[action]
[Truth be told, he didn't remember at first, because a lot of things happened on Christmas Eve. And then he did, because Ion was doing something that Luke thought he'd forgotten about.
At the sudden memory, he clears his throat and straightens his back, looking back towards the wall to hide how his face flushes.]
Uh... N-No, I didn't. What, um... happened?
[action]
...that morning, the elf that had been following me told me I had to drink eggnog. I didn't realize it at the time because I'd never heard of it before, but... eggnog has alcohol in it. And the elf made me drink two cartons of it.
To be honest, I... still don't remember everything about that day completely.
[action]
[Well THAT certainly explains what he saw, and his tone seems to indicate that rather than asking what came out of it. Luke gives his head a small shake after - focus, Luke, you're acting weird - and tries again.]
I mean... So what, uh... do you remember?
[action]
...I remember enough to know I did something I really shouldn't have.
[Something he still blames himself for entirely, despite Kohan's attempts to persuade him otherwise. He may have agreed with Kohan at the time when he tried to pin what happened between them on the malnosso, but Ion knows that just isn't the case here.]
You saw the mistletoe all over the village that day, didn't you? I hadn't realized what it was until we were already stuck under one. But... to be honest, I...
[He still hasn't specified who, here. Though for Luke especially, it might be a fairly easy guess.]
I... don't think it would have mattered to me at the time whether we were truly stuck there or not.
[action]
But then the last part is admitted, and everything changes.]
Didn't matter...?
[For a second, Luke really is a bit clueless, because... no way, Kohan? But then it really hits him, and he realizes just what Ion means.
It wouldn't matter if there was mistletoe... Luke doubts it's because of the eggnog. Ion wouldn't admit something like that if he thought it was the alcohol messing with his judgement, and he can't be drunk a month later. The only other reason honestly has him surprised; he never pegged Ion to like guys. Not that Luke has a problem with it, it's just that... Anise...
But sometimes things like that are just what they are, huh? He's learned that, too.]
... Do you like him, Ion? [Why yes, it is a fairly easy guess.]
[action]
[...wait.]
...how did you know who I was talking about? [He almost sounds a little alarmed. Luke may have not said a name, but he did say he and that's enough to pull Ion out of his train of thought.]
[action]
[Oh god, IDIOT. IDIOT LUKE. He immediately feels his face flush, and he lifts up his hands defensively, as if to ward off any suspicion Ion feels.]
I didn't - It's not like that! I was, um... I might have... seen you guys? I-It was just for a second, it's not...
[action]
[Luke stahp.]
[Ion's whole face is very quickly turning scarlet the more Luke talks. And unfortunately for him, he doesn't quite realize which incident Luke might have seen. After all, surely if Luke had seen them in Seventh Heaven, he would have said something! Which could only mean--]
Y-You saw us in front of House One?
[...because that's the kiss that sparked this real problem here.]
[action]
[ION WHAT THE FUCK.]
[action]
...it was Kohan.
[action]
... That's who we're talking about now, right? [UNLESS HE KISSED SOMEONE ELSE OUTSIDE HOUSE 1...]
[action]
[Which. Oh dear. He doesn't know which is worse, so he's just going to kind of hide his face for a second here. It's been a long time since he's felt quite this embarrassed, and truth be told the emotional roller coaster that is his mood today is starting to take a bit of a toll on him.]
[action]
[Luke rubs the back of his neck and lightly bites his lower lip. Talk about awkward. He was hoping he'd get by without revealing who saw them, but... too late for that now.
So, back on topic, Luke glances at Ion, still pretty red in the face himself.]
But you do like him?
[action]
...I don't know. It wasn't something I even considered until I spoke with him about it... he was avoiding me for long, I was more concerned about preserving our friendship. But when he told me it was probably just the malnosso making us act like that, I... [He gives a soft, hallow laugh.] ...I couldn't find it in me to disagree with him.
Even though we agreed nothing would ever make us stop being friends, I... don't know how I'll be able to face him again.
